Dr. Tunis Vergeer joined the Hope College biology department in 1931. A former fellow of the Division of Medical Sciences of the National Research Council, he conducted research on the effects of auxins, calines, bioses, and florigens, used in the production of crops, on the skin and digestive tract of small mammals to assess possible effects on people who handle these substances.
